About the Writer

tcheadshot3.jpgTerry D. Cowgill rejoined The Lakeville Journal Company as senior writer in 2005. Cowgill worked previously at one of the company’s other papers, The Millerton News, where he served for five years — three of them as editor.

Serving as beat writer for Salisbury and Falls Village, Cowgill also writes many of The Journal’s editorials and pens occasional enterprise pieces on state politics, education, people, trends and businesses in the region. Cowgill has won awards from the New York Press Association and the New England Press Association for editorial writing. He started this blog in May 2006.

Cowgill is a graduate of St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Mass., holds a B.A. in dramatic literature from Bishop’s University (Canada) and earned an M.A. in liberal studies from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.

He taught high school English and drama for 13 years, including a seven-year stint at The Forman School in Litchfield, where he served as head of the English department. From 2001 to 2005, he was director of institutional advancement at Maplebrook School in Amenia, N.Y.
