Flooding the polls with phony registrations to sow confusion and overwhelm the blue haired polling ladies. Nice. Apparently another thing they do is just vote the registrations at will, manufacturing wins in the needed precincts. Saul Alinsky, you trained your progeny well. This is going to be a fun four years with our little Chavez wannabe.

Speaking of Chavez, I remember talking to a successful businessman in Caracas the day Chavez was first elected. He spent the whole lunch telling me how it wasn’t going to be so bad. That guy now? Lost his family business and scraping together a living in Miami. Now it’s our turn.

Obama scary? Come on. The guy who’s giving us the goodbye look, this lame duck, dead duck black sheep…

Way off base here Terry…
Obama’s association with ACORN was with the Justice Department.

I’m sure the educated people up here heard the sound clip of Obama talking to the plumber about raising taxes — redistribution of wealth. That’s his mantra. If the economy really is your issue, Obama’s plan will kill it! Raising taxes is the exact opposite of what should be done. As for ACORN, I’m with Jake. Obama’s association is vast and scary. Obama’s political career was launched from the house of Bill Ayres. But I have been told by liberals up here that character doesn’t matter in the White House (not surprising considering the adoration of Clinton). But the hatred for Bush from Terrence still gives me the creeps.
6 Marshall Miles // Oct 15, 2008 at 6:25 am
I guess it was okay for McCain to associate with and address ACORN in 2006 and tell them what a fantastic job they were doing!
Scary associations?!!!!!
How about Blaackwater, Halliburton, etc, etc…
Pulezze
7 Terry // Oct 15, 2008 at 7:06 am
Marshall,
You don’t think a pattern of associations with bizarre and radical people is a legitimate issue? Imagine if McCain’s political career was hatched in the living room of an abortion bomber. Would you be taking such a hands-off approach? I don’t think so and neither would I.
As far as I know, Haliburton and Blackwater didn’t try to blow up the Capitol. Obama personally represented ACORN in a lawsuit, so his connection is more than tangential.
Their positions on the war are pretty clear. What else is there to say on that? Neither has a clue as to what to do about the economy.
Please give me a link about McCain and ACORN. I’ve not see it before. If true, that would explain why he doesn’t raise it as an issue against Obama.

Maybe you should stop thinking about it. Trying to find a non-existent needle in a haystack can be quite taxing.
It is a non-issue. Voter REGISTRATION “fraud” is a rectifiable prank easily remedied - because the fake name DOESN’T vote. And it is a far cry from the despicable voter SUPPRESSION fraud, perfected by the republicans, which disallows legitimate voters from voting through intimidation, fear, real voter roll purging, and a side order of Diebold wizardry.
Ala Josh Marshall of TPM - “You know that millions of new voters have registered to vote in this election. And they’re disproportionately Democrats. So Republicans across the country are pulling out every stop to disqualify as many of those voters as possible or gum up the works with procedural delays they’re not eligible to vote on election day.”
And mark MY word… if there is anybody involved in true slime in regard to post-election voting discrepancies, keep your closest eye on those who are screaming so loudly about Acorn right now.

Obama’s message has been “change”. As good of a speaker he is supposed to be, h has ot articulated what and how he will bring about that change.
If the issue is the economy, why did democrats tank it the past few years when they came into power? Why is Obama’s plan built on tax increases which EVERYONE knows hurts the economy. Why do democrats support legislation that limits our production of energy (one of the catalysts for this current crisis, or perhaps…adjustment)?
The real truth is that the neatly packaged, groomed, manufactured, reality show Obama has been easily sold to the American people by the mass media. This puppet (as we now learn from Pelosi) has many strings attached, some leading to the hands of the very ones that want to destroy our constitution. If Obama is elected, it will only prove how stupid the American public have become…..Rome all over again.

Uh, Richie…To late to burn Rome! Rome has not only been burned the past eight years, it has been pillaged, looted, raped on a yearly basis under W!
But you are correct, how stupid the voters are, we reelected W four years ago!
13 Richie West // Oct 15, 2008 at 11:38 am
You are right Marshall, I am very disappointed in Bush in allowing the democrats to pillage, loot, and rape the economy. Obama’s hires the culprits and is in bed with the chairs of the committes that turned their backs at the change McCain advocated. BTW, Clinton agrees with me…LOL
Follow the money….right to Obama…… His very advisors are those that reaped the biggest hauls from Freddie and Fannie.
It is always good to get splinters out of the eye of your opposition Marshall but before you can ever be effective you need to remove that fat board out of your own.
There are none so blind……

BTW Marshall, the economy was ticking along just fine until the Dems took control of Congress. Because of Dems (Barney and Chris to mention just a couple), the economic mess has been a house of cards since the Clinton administration. The hated GWB (I’d kill myself if I had that much hate for a man who really doesn’t deserve it — and believe me, I have a few issues with the Bush administration too — but not hatred)administration tried TWELVE times to get Congress to act on better oversight for the zillinos of regulations that made up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I think it’s pretty telling that if something goes wrong, it’s the president’s fault, especially a republican president and if something goes right, it’s the democrat congress laurels. LOL Barack Obama is dangerous.

Terry, I honestly do not know what to make of ACORN. Your diatribe against it follows from the WSJ piece - and I submit to you that the WSJ is about as unbiased as the NYT. If you look at it on Wiki, which I recommend to anyone who wants to quickly obtain neutral info (as much as one can hope for, at least), you get a very different picture from the one you paint. The Republican advertising machine has worked fast, and I think up to about a month ago, effectively. Their first play, which I thought had merit, was that Obama was inexperienced. After the Palin nomination, that was dropped lickety-split. Then he was portrayed as a rock star. That was dropped fast when Palin turned out to be one too. Now come the associations with nogoodniks, which, if the Democrat’s machine chooses to, can be defused by calling up McCain’s past associations (paging Charles Keating). It should come as no surprise (well, actually I am a bit surprised) that the negative strategy has proven itself to be bankrupt. My point here is that if you want to believe a few partisan pundits or hatchet jobs from either side, you will only confirm opinions and raise the temperature. My own view (I know you think I give them too much credit) is that McCain is not corrupt because of the S&L debacle, and Obama is not corrupt because of whatever has gone on with ACORN.
16 Terry // Oct 15, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Oh my, what a debate this has sparked.
Marshall,
Thanks for the link. You answered my question. That looks to be the reason that McCain is not making a bigger deal of ACORN.
Mark,
Why would ACORN bother to register phony voters if they didn’t expect some votes would be cast based on those efforts? Sounds like a total waste of time and resources, funded in part by U.S. taxpayers. Also, my understanding is that ACORN could gum up the works with enough phony registrations to impede actual vote counting, resulting in voter suppression.
First of all, I am not a Republican and never have been. It would be neat if the world were so simple as GOP bad and Dem good or (in the case of Richie and Janice) vice versa.
I think John McCain is running a pathetic campaign. Iraq war supporter Christopher Hitchens wrote a scathing piece in Slate recently smacking Mac down — much of which I agree with.
The Republicans have screwed up in a historic way and they deserve to lose. But that doesn’t mean I should look uncritically at the Big O. So far, I don’t like much of what I see, either in terms of his policies, achievements or the company he keeps.
He is the world’s most cautious politician. He is careful to a fault. Right now we need bold leadership. You’re not going to get that in either of these two characters. What a dreadful choice — these two candidates.
Peter,
The WSJ piece is an editorial. My beef with the NYT is with its blurring of the lines in its news pieces.
On ACORN’s wikipedia entry there are multiple indictments and at least two externally sourced examples of convictions or guilty pleas.
I never said Obama is corrupt but the people he has ingratiated himself with sometimes are. I think McCain’s Keating connection is not only legit, but (like you) I sometimes wonder why the Obama campaign hasn’t made more of it.
The Dems haven’t ignored Keating because they are more virtuous or because they have an aversion to slime. I suspect they are not bringing it up because … they are ahead and don’t feel the need to attack. Welcome to Politics 101.
17 Richie West // Oct 15, 2008 at 3:39 pm
I am not a republican, I am a conservative. Let me be on record that I don’t particularly like McCain either.
What I look for in any ppolitical choice is agenda and political/governmental philosophies. Obama is probably the most liberal politician ever presented on the democrat slate, so is McCain for the republicans. Obama is a socialist and keeps company with those with that philosophy.
Obama is not a leader or is he unifier. He is an armchair Monday morning play caller. When asked to come to DC to discuss the economic crisis he said, “call me if you need me”. I guess he wasn’t/isn’t really needed anyway. It has been his MO in life. If Obama can legally win this election, he will simply “fill a position” not lead from it.
BTW Terry, democrats have always thrown slime. It’s difficult to distinguish it though when its always on their faces.
18 J Kliza // Oct 16, 2008 at 11:18 am
Hey Mark, I thought the same thing about voter fraud insofar as fake voters can’t vote BUT then I heard the way it is truly used. AFTER the election precinct is closed and if the election precinct is run by dems in the predominantly dem areas (urban — Philly, Cleveland, etc), ballots ARE cast using the phony voter names. Pretty slick. Could you source the voter intimidation by republicans? I never heard of any. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, I just never heard of any. As a conservative, I just don’t want anyone voting who is not entitled to their ONE legitimate vote. I just don’t see anything wrong with that? Do you?

That last one is hardly apples to apples, Mark, but at least it does show that groups like ACORN don’t have a monopoly on this kind of chicanery.
