What I meant by advertising was Advertising–not journalism. With a new business, I have been thinking alot about advertising in general and how businesses like McDonald’s and Dunkin Donuts advertise and we certainly know all about them. Our minds are so filled with information that we need constant reminders about everything, Isn’t that why we have bookmarks on our computers. I certainly know I need them. My point is: few of us when reading a newspaper or listening to the radio run to our calendars or datebooks and write down: “Election Tuesday. Must Vote.” So….I think elections like these need to be advertised more. The sign in front of Town Hall that said VOTE HERE TODAY, might have been up for a week *VOTE HERE ON MAY 6) to remind people. I think you all do a great job covering local politics and the school boards. But I still think we need more reminders

We carried a front-page story in last week’s print edition and have reported on the Reg 1 budget process since January, at least. Also, I posted a reminder yesterday on this blog and reminders started this week on WHDD-AM 1020.

But if it’s not something that strikes your fancy, it’s hard to remember. I suspect you actually have a life that requires you to eat, sleep and breath something other than budgets.

There was only one public hearing, but at least half a dozen workshop meetings held by the BOE during the budget process. Public comment was welcome during any of those sessions.

Better advertised?!

Stories ran in the Lakeville Journal on this…all of the budget hearing were aired on local access television, and stories were carried on the radio!

I don’t know how much better advertised it could have been!

Plus, there were at least two or threee PUBLIC hearings, all publicized by radio, television and newspaper!

But good for you on voting!

I only voted today because I happened to ride my bike by the Town of Canaan (Falls Village) Town Hall and saw a sign about the election. When I walked in, I am embarrassed to admit I had to ask “What are we voting about?” and then I was shown the ballot, but there was no information to help me make my decision. But I must say the bureaucracy of our voting system–ID checks as if were an illegal immigrant crossing the border, half a dozen people administering the process with ballots printed on heavy stock–seems out of sync. I await your analysis. But I must say that the election could be better advertised, though I am not sure who would be responsible for administering that. All I know is that if it had been a rainy day and I had not been riding my bike, I would never voted
