  1. It was sad and terrific at the same time. He provided me with many laughs over the years, and he did so in his passing.

  2. When I first started getting columns published in Connecticut newspapers back in the 80s, I sent some samples to Buchwald. He wrote back. Said as he was reading my stuff, ” I was shaking my head. ” Didn’t say from side to side or up and down. But I took it as encouragement.

    Buchwald will be missed by those who think there’s a place for satire and humor on op-ed pages. The Russell Bakers and the Buchwalds are gone. Talk about a news hole that won’t be filled anytime soon.
