AlGore-Rhythms

January 16, 2007 on 12:54 pm | In Global Warming, Main, National |

Glad to see I’m not the only one out there who thinks this.

I’m not a big fan of the ex-VP, but if the Dems really want to win back the White House in 2008, Gore is the only person on the planet who can truthfully say he has run against George W. Bush and received the most votes. This is to say nothing of having won two other races on a national ticket.

Of course, Bush will not be running again (thankfully), but many Dems realize they would do well to nominate a battle-tested, seasoned candidate who can stand toe-to-toe with McCain or Rudy (or the Mittster).

Within days of announcing, he could raise truckloads of money, tout his electability (watch out, Hillary!) and his experience in foreign affairs (watch out Obama!). And he could run as the I-told-you-so candidate (climate change and Iraq war)

Of course, he does risk becoming another Harold Stassen. But isn’t that a risk worth taking if you want to be president?

  1. And beat a Rodham/Obama ticket?* I’ll take that bet. $100 here and now.

(The best sources are saying that Bill is running the Obama pre-game show.)

  2. I’m not sure I understand. Beat “a Rodham/Obama ticket?” The only ticket Gore would have to beat is the Republican ticket.

Or are you saying Hillary and Obama might run in the primaries with a wink and a nod to their supporters that no matter who wins the nomination the other will be on the ticket as VP? So, in essence, Gore would have to beat them as a “ticket?”

  3. I know many people who would have worded it:

“Gore is the only person on the planet who can truthfully say he has run against George W. Bush and won“.

But most of the “people” I know are Art School drop-outs.

I think that Gore can do a lot more good now, as the article states “…in leaving public office….”

  4. Ya, second paragraph. Heard that from the RealClearPolitics guy, who seemed pretty convinced. He thinks that’s why the Clintons took out Warner and the others to Hillary’s right. It all fits, if you work through the details, which I won’t do here (some might consider it too cynical).
