About Patrick L. Sullivan

November 24th, 2006

Patrick L. Sullivan spent most of his life in a bat cave in Tierra del Fuego.

Only recently did he decide to get serious about being an adult - with decidedly mixed results.

    Patrick,

Can you give us your thoughts on the recent BoSox signing of DMat?

    Dear Yankee -

My first response! Congratulations! You win first prize - a copy of all my unpublished fiction!

(You got off easy. Second prize is two copies.)

As to Boston’s deal with the Japanese pitcher, it strikes me as risky at best.

For decades, the off-season motto for Red Sox executives was “Don’t just do something, stand there.”

They seem to be erring in the opposite direction. The J.D. Drew deal is another dubious example.

But at least with him you know what you’re getting - an overpriced malcontent who strikes out a lot.

There’s no way to be certain Mr. DMat is the real thing.

And from an economics standpoint it seems crazy. How are they going to make back the money? The park is sold out. The only way to get any more customers in Fenway is to put them in a balloon.

Oh, wait, let me guess. They’ll raise ticket prices and put NESN on a premium cable package.

Stumbled on this; I take it this is the Patrick who also populates Ask Andy. On that subject: You are the reason I left that forum. A dismissive remark by you put me right off.

If you can’t take the rough and tumble of an internet message board (!) then you have bigger problems than me and my smarty-pants stuff.
